SmartTrim Controller is being designed to reduce repetitive trim and tab workload without turning the boat into a black box.
Adaptive trim is more than chasing one angle.
The best trim position changes with speed, load, water conditions, hull behavior and operator intent. A useful assistance system therefore needs more than a fixed speed-to-trim table. SmartTrim’s control architecture is being developed around a live vessel state that can account for motion and operating context.
That does not mean every decision should be learned by a model. Deterministic limits, hardware interlocks, sanity checks and explicit fallback behavior are important parts of a marine control system. Edge inference can add adaptability inside those boundaries rather than replacing them.
Captain authority
Automation should be understandable and reversible.
The Controller is intended to assist supported trim and tab systems while preserving a direct manual path. The captain remains responsible for vessel operation. Any production release will require documented operating limits, installation requirements and validation beyond the pre-launch concepts described on this site.
The SmartTrim Logger pilot is useful to this development path because real synchronized vessel data creates a better basis for understanding how different hulls, loads and setups behave before control strategies are generalized.
