Adaptive trim assistance built around the captain.

SmartTrim Controller is the control layer of the SmartTrim platform. It is being developed to interpret vessel motion, speed, setup and available onboard data locally, then assist supported trim and tab systems without removing manual authority at the helm.

What it does

Adaptive marine trim control system built for real water.

SmartTrim Controller is an adaptive vessel-control system under development for powerboats. It uses a local sensor and compute platform to understand how the boat is riding and to assist compatible trim, trim-tab and related control surfaces.

In development SmartTrim Controller

  • Local vessel-state estimation
  • Real-time pitch and roll awareness
  • Support for trim and tab control architectures
  • Deterministic safety and fallback logic
  • Edge inference for adaptive behavior
  • Manual authority retained by design

Practical applications

Designed around repeatable on-water decisions.

  • Reduce repetitive trim corrections as conditions change
  • Help maintain a more repeatable running attitude
  • Use vessel data to inform tab and trim decisions
  • Create a platform for boat-specific and class-level tuning
  • Preserve an immediate path back to manual operation

Common questions

What boaters and marine professionals should know.

What is SmartTrim Controller?

SmartTrim Controller is an adaptive vessel-control system under development for powerboats. It uses a local sensor and compute platform to understand how the boat is riding and to assist compatible trim, trim-tab and related control surfaces.

Does it replace the captain?

No. The design goal is assistance, not autonomy. The captain remains responsible for operating the vessel and retains manual control. Product development emphasizes predictable fallback behavior and clear boundaries around automated adjustments.

Does it need NMEA 2000?

Not for every core sensing function. Motion and position data can provide useful vessel-state information on their own. NMEA 2000 can deepen the system by adding supported engine, navigation and vessel data when those signals are available.

When will it be available?

The Controller remains in development and is not being offered as a production product today. Walker Marine Technologies is using data and pilot learning from the broader SmartTrim ecosystem to progress the control platform.
